Steve grew up in New England and spent his summers with his family in Maine. The landscape and way of life he experienced during those early years have had a lasting impact on him.
He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University in New York, where he met his wife and fellow MSA Partner, Janara.
Steve developed an early connection to residential architecture through his father and grandfather, both by observing and participating in his family’s construction business throughout high school and college. Had he not pursued a career in residential architecture, Steve would probably be designing wooden boats, as he has always been drawn to the level of craft involved and the efficiency of their design and detailing.
Steve joined the firm in 2010 and made the Hamptons his home. In 2020, he became a Partner at James Merrell Architects, now Merrell Soule Architects. He firmly believes that any design problem can be worked through with a pen and a roll of trace. He can often be found sketching or gathered around a table with other team members, developing ideas together.
In his spare time, Steve tries to spend as much time as possible on the water, fishing and enjoying quiet days with his wife and children.
Their dog, Chance, is affectionately regarded as a member of the MSA family.
